Música y peruanidad en la Lima del siglo XIX: Rebagliati, Alzedo y la Rapsodia peruana

Abstract

Claudio Rebagliati fue, por mucho, el músico más destacado e influyente en la Lima del siglo XIX; pese a ello, quedó muy rezagado en reconocimiento en comparación con el celebrado José Bernardo Alzedo. A partir del análisis de una obra musical que los vincula potentemente, tanto entre sí como con el contexto cultural y político de su época, se ofrece un acercamiento crítico a la caracterización de estos personajes y se explora la medida en la que Rebagliati fue uno de los arquitectos de la canonización de Alzedo, así como las motivaciones políticas de este proceso. Esto conduce a una reflexión respecto a la elusiva naturaleza de la peruanidad y su búsqueda, a dos siglos de la independencia nacional.

Claudio Rebagliati was by far the most prominent and influential musician in the 19th century Lima; despite of this, he lagged far behind in the recognition compared to the celebrated José Bernardo Alzedo. Based on the analysis of a musical work that strongly links them, both with each other and with the cultural and political context of their time, a critical approach is offered to the characterization of these characters, and the extent to which Rebagliati was one of the architects of the canonization of Alzedo, as well the political motivations of this process. This leads to a reflection on the elusive nature of Peru and its search, two centuries after the national independence.
