La imagen de Felipe Pinglo Alva en la historiografía del criollismo musical peruano

Abstract

El “ser moderno” en Lima de los 1900 era paradigma de una elite costeña y criolla, es en ese contexto que surge una imagen de Pinglo como un compositor ampliamente identificado con lo popular, imagen que fue refrendada por el relato historiográfico del siglo XX al punto de obnubilar no solo a otros autores de la época, sino, otras facetas del músico que no concordaban con las pretensiones peruanistas de presentar a un Felipe Pinglo Alva que es un salvador de la música criolla y el artífice inicial de la creación de esta música. Sin embargo, una breve revisión del corpus de obras del músico revela que la cantidad de canciones sociales representan una minoría de su creativa.

The “modern self” in Lima in the 1900s was a paradigm of a costal and criollo elite. It is in this context that Pinglo rises as an image of a composer easily identified with the popular, an image that was endorsed in 20th century historiographic accounts to the point of obfusicating not only other authors from this era, but also other facets of this musician that did not align with the Peruvianist pretensions of presenting Felipe Pinglo Alva as a savior of criolla music and the initial constructedness of the creation of this music. Nevertheless, a brief review of the corpus of works by this musician reveals that the number of social songs represents a minority of his creative work.
