Resumen
The timba is a musical phenomenon of great social impact, and one which expresses the emotions and protests of a people oppressed by the economic lack that Cuba was going through. It is considered an intergenre that arises from the fusion and influence of American music such as jazz, funk, rock and Afro-Cuban rhythms. The objective of the article is to compare and clarify the differences between Cuban timba and Peruvian timba, through musical analysis between two songs by the groups NG La Banda, resident in Cuba, and Los Conquistadores de la Salsa, resident in Peru. The findings showed that the song “Fururu Farara” has a musical language of “commercial popular” influence and in the case of the song “No se puede tapar el sol” the diversity of musical resources is distinguished under the predominance of North American and Afro-Cuban music.
